Major Changes to Distribution Use of System (DUoS) Charges

April 2010 From the 1st April 2010 there have been major changes to the DUoS charges published for all 14 Distribution Areas. Simply put the DUoS charge is a charge that Distribution Businesses make against the suppliers for maintaining and passing electricity across their network. Ofgem asked the Distributors to come up with a common charging methodology across all 14 areas. The Common Distribution Charging Methodology (CDCM) was established and a new structure has now been agreed. This has had an important impact on unmetered supplies customers, it will impact the rate you are charged by your supplier. In SSE (Hydro) in Scotland for example, there is now an approximate 20% saving by moving from Non Half Hourly trading to Half Hourly trading, this saving was significantly lower before the CDCM.
